They have this at one of the stands at the local market. I was thinking of getting one just to try it, but what is it? What does it taste like? Do you like it?

It _is_ good, tasting like cauliflower and maybe a little broccolli-ish. It's fractally delicious!
It's some veggie in the Brassica family but I don't remember its name. Regardless, it's a yummy thing to steam, marinade or saute.

looks more like an ornamental plant to me.

Yup. It branches like broccolli and cauliflower do, so you can break it apart and do with it what you wish.
